PROFILE
I am Anthony R. Latino, an architect in Champaign, Illinois. I have assembled the following website to showcase a collection of projects developed over the years and professional information to provide further insight concerning myself.
I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Graduate School of Architecture in May of 2010, where I received my Master of Architecture with a focus in preservation. In addition, I hold a Bachelor’s of Liberal Arts with distinction in History, also from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Throughout my academic career, I have been privileged to participate in a spectrum of intriguing projects and met a diverse group of professionals. As an undergraduate, my studies focused on Medieval and Modern European history, which allowed for the coupling of two of my greatest interests, architecture and history. While in the history program, I was able to study in both the architecture and history departments to develop research projects, which in turn fostered my research travels to Europe and awarded several scholarships for my work. This work continued through graduate school, where I received my formal training in architectural practice and preservation while continuing my architectural history research. During my tenure at the University of Illinois, I was appointed as a research assistant, and then hired as a full-time project manager for CERL. While working my way up through these positions, I have been fortunate to work on a broad range of research and development projects in a variety of areas alongside a great staff of researchers and professionals. I began project managing under the Center for the Advancement of Sustainable Innovations (CASI) in a joint venture with the Air Force to develop an internet-based, knowledge management system for sustainability initiatives and information sharing. Currently, I am managing R&D projects centered on net zero military installations and energy security within the DoD. Although, professionally employed, my research desires from academia have carried on and spurred my continued interest in researching the design theories and influences of Andrea Palladio, an Italian Renaissance architect from the Veneto region of Italy. This research endeavor is of great personal interest to me and has been the basis for seven research trips to Europe. Each subsequent trip has focused on a specific facet of Palladio’s life and work in order to better understand him as an architect, his education, his edifices and his design philosophy. It is my hope, through continued research, to further delve into the life and works of Palladio and bring to light lessons that can be learned from his design solutions and apply those to modern day design and sustainability issues. Also, over the past several years, I have been fortunate to pursue my passion for research, architecture, teaching, and travel. I have spent much of my personal time researching and participating in workshops abroad. I collaborated with a variety of international professionals, through various projects and workshops, where language limitations required strong visual representations. These experiences contribute to my unique point of view as a designer and citizen, as well as my aspirations to be involved in international work. My philosophy, developed from my diverse broad background, rooted in research and personal experiences, has granted me the privilege of possessing a very unique perspective of the world. Please peruse my website as it is my hope that it will provide a better view of my personal and professional experiences, where you will find my resume, portfolio and contact information. Feel free to contact me at any time if you have any further questions or comments. |
