Peoria Warehouse District Redevelopment - Peoria, IL

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
FALL 2008

Synergicity was as an effort to develop a revitalization master plan for Peoria’s Warehouse District located along the banks of the Illinois River.  The district has been neglected for many years and the city is working to redevelop this area as the cornerstone for the revitalization of the central business district.  Required components & programmed spaces of the master plan:
  • Mixed-use
  • Residential
  • Commercial
  • Public/Local Government presence
The overall project goals for the revitalization plan were to provide housing and commercial spaces for emerging professionals, graduate students, and single families located within Peoria.  Provide support spaces to Peoria’s central business district in the form of alternative retail and commercial spaces, as well as additional hospitality (restaurant and entertainment) spaces.  Provide additional depth to the civic quality of Peoria with improved public spaces, such as additional parks and green areas, as well as cultural venues.
The Peoria Municipal Center design provides a modern facility for the city’s government to support the surrounding area with required public services.  This expanded facility will also provide the much-needed space and capabilities that these city services require to support this revitalized district businesses and the area’s new growth.  The design provides the needed spaces to support the various city functions within one complex that incorporates existing iconic historic structures located on the site.  The site for this expanded facility is located on prominent entrance into the district from the interstate and highways, which provides the city a significant visual statement.
