DESIGN:
- Following the historical Characteristics of the building
- Colonial Revival Style, elements and detailing, of the existing structure will be used to blend the new expansion project into the existing Hotel
- Carolina Inn’s design and massing provided suggestions of what would be appropriate for the expansion as far as scale , orientation, organization and shapes
- Whitehead will be converted from a student dorm into luxury suites and become the luxury wing of the already premier hotel
- Majority of the surface parking will be moved underground, doubling the current spaces provided with the use of a two floor underground parking structure; this will allow for the room expansion onto Carolina Inn and a new courtyard; This will also remove the vehicles from sight, creating a more natural atmosphere and will also allow for greater security of the vehicles
- Entrance of the parking structure will be located on the Southwest side of the site, between Miller Hall and Carolina Inn; the sloped terrain provides the perfect conditions for the location of the structure and its entrance to be located here
- Carolina Inn Room Expansion to the West of the current hotel will provide for 40+ additional standard guest rooms and create several informal public spaces and will provide additional service areas for the new and current guest wings
- Miller Hall Expansion is a proposed self-sustaining Day-Spa and Health center that will provide a variety of services for the health and welfare of the Carolina Inn Patrons; it will include day-spa services as well as the exercise facilities for the guests of the hotel
